NAGALAND

Set in a mountainous region, the northeastern state of Nagaland shares its borders with Myanmar and the Indian states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur.

Nagaland recognises 16 tribes, each of which have their own distinct customs, cultures, dress, beliefs, festivals and language. The major tribes are the Angami, Ao, Konyak, Sema and Rengma. To experience one of their festivals is to experience a photographer's dream - think bold colours like reds, blue, blacks and yellow; exquisite woven attire and jewellery made of animal bone and beads; traditional dances and games; and - of course - feasting!

Visit Nagaland to witness some of the world's most intriguing cultures before they disappear.
