BEST OF EAST INDIAN BIRDING

Assam and Arunachal Pradesh are a birder's paradise – expect to see exotic bird species and go on boat rides, hikes, tribal village visits, and elephant and jeep safaris so buckle up for a great trip into birding country. Bird species that you can expect to find are White-Winged Wood Duck, Bengal Florican, Black-breasted Parrotbill, Oriental Honey Buzzard, Temminck's Tragopan, Eurasian Nutcracker, Darjeeling Woodpecker, Fire-tailed Myzornis and Greater Adjutant Stork. In the winter months, Black-necked Cranes and Black-tailed Cranes migrate to this region from Tibet.

DAYS 6 to 8 | KAZIRANGA NATIONAL PARK

Drive to Kaziranga National Park | Morning elephant safari | Elephant bathing | Village visit | Dolphin boat ride | Jeep safari | Birding trip | Visit to an organic tea garden and tea store

 

DAYS 9 & 10 | NAMERI NATIONAL PARK

Drive to Nameri National Park, at the foothills of the Himalayas | Rafting | Easy hikes | ​Look out for White-winged Wood Duck, Ibisbill, Great Pied Hornbill, Wreathed Hornbill, Rufous-necked Hornbill

DAYS 11 to 13 | DIRANG

Drive to Dirang | Day trip to Sangti Valley | Look out for Great Barbet, White Wagtail, Orange-bellied Leafbird, Rosy Pipit, Ashy-throated Warbler, Grey Bushcoat, White-browed Scimitar Babbler, Eurasian Nutcracker and migratory birds (only in winter) like Black-necked Cranes and Black-tailed Cranes

DAYS 14 to 16 | EAGLE'S NEST SANCTUARY

Drive to Eagle's Nest Sanctuary, a protected bird area in the Himalayas | Home to over 400 species of birds including Rufous-headed Parrotbill, Great Hornbill, Hoary-throated Barwing and three different types of Tragopan species

DAY 17 | TEZPUR

Drive to Tezpur | Local town market | Agnigarh

DAY 18 | DEPART

Transfer to Guwahati airport and fly to Delhi or Kolkata for onward journey | Alternatively, check our river cruise or overland tour extensions.
